Sr. Bertilda (Mary E. Pick)

Born March 22, 1902. Entered St. Francis Order 1922.

Died February 2, 1998.

The first of the Pick quartet of ‘sisterly love’ to join the convent, Sr. Bertilda was known for her kindness and mild manners. Described as a sisterly homemaker for each of her religious posts, she lived each day as a servant of God until her dying day at age 95.

Sister Bertilda’s often repeated prayer her last days was “Trinity in me!”

Her one longing was to do God’s will, and in one of the letters I wrote for her to her brother Elmer, she asked him to pray that she would do God’s will.

Two hours before her death, her one concern was to receive the Eucharist…after three times and pulling away from her oxygen mask, her wish was fulfilled.

Less than half an hour before she died, Sr. Bertilda asked me a question. “What day is today?” When I responded, “It’s the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, February 2” she looked pleased.

Sisterly Love

With four Pick sisters joining the convent, they were most often looked at as a sisterly quartet. With so many family pictures and stories covering the four of them, we have created a special page just for the four of them together named ‘Sisterly Love’.
